Microscope-assisted dentistry
OfficeDent medical teamUpdated:

Microscope-assisted procedures are slowly but surely becoming more common in dental clinics around the world. Now, patients in Ploiești can also benefit from the advantages of procedures performed under microscopic control at the Office Dent dental clinic.

Teeth are very small and fine structures, similar to eyes, ears or noses. ENT surgeons, ophthalmic surgeons and neurosurgeons routinely operate under a microscope to give operations greater precision and accuracy. The advent of the microscope in dental practice has led to more predictable treatments and to results of superior functionality and aesthetics, because it has two major benefits: excellent, shadow-free illumination and magnification of more than 25 times – because you cannot treat what you cannot see!
For the dentist, the detailed view of a tooth or root canal improves the quality of the medical procedure, and during treatment the patient can follow the procedure in real time on the monitor in the treatment room and see the same clear image as the doctor.
Treatments under the microscope are recommended in certain situations:
- Endodontics (the branch of dentistry dealing with root canal treatment). Because of the much better visualization, root canal treatments are much more effective, and more complicated cases – such as removing broken instruments from the canal, or teeth with calcified or accessory canals – can be treated, because the microscope provides high magnification that reveals details that would otherwise be impossible to see with the naked eye.
- Possibly avoiding an extraction – retreatment of teeth that have developed a granuloma at the root is done much more accurately and, in some cases, teeth can be saved from extraction.
- The treatment of dental caries is much more effective because the microscope, through its magnification, ensures the decay is removed completely and no more than necessary, and the fillings are much better adapted, preventing further leakage.
- Scaling performed under microscopic control ensures better cleaning of the teeth, and periodontal flap surgery (cleaning of the tooth root with special instruments) has a better result, because all the affected tissue is removed while more of the healthy tissue is preserved intact.
- Preparing (grinding) teeth to be covered with a metal or ceramic crown is a common procedure in dental practice. If the microscope is used, the prepared margins are much sharper and more precise, allowing the artificial crown to fit better and thus achieving a superior fit and aesthetics.
For doctors, the use of the microscope is a benefit because it improves their posture while working and makes them constantly improve their skills, since many hours of training are needed to truly benefit from working with the optical microscope.
